It has been a crazy week so I have not spent a lot of time thinking about what shows I might take in this weekend.  We also have two issues affecting the number of quality shows; first is the SXSW festival in Austin, TX which many of our local bands are playing at and the second is the St. Patrick’s Day and the related debauchery.

So I might wait out this weekend or hit a couple of local shows.  Here are some suggestions I am thinking about and you might want to check out.

Mustard Plug at Triple Rock Social Club Friday March 16th- the veteran SKA/Punk band will be playing the great Triple Rock venue.  Expect a varied crowd and a lot of intense Skanking!  Twin Cities SKA bands Rocksteady Breakfast and Blue Waffle will be opening.

G. Love and Special Sauce at First Avenue Friday March 16th- in their annual visit to First Avenue (I seem to remember them playing here about the same time last year).  Expect a full house, the smell of marijuana and a bluesy-rockin time.  My favorite G. Love song has to be “Cold Beverage” expect to hear it.

Reverend John Wilkins at the Bayport BBQ Saturday March 17th-coming off his show at 7th Street Entry on Thursday John Wilkins will be playing the east metro this weekend in support of his You Can’t Hurry God album.  The son of blues legend, Robert Wilkins, John Wilkins continues in his fathers footsteps with a combination of blues and gospel.

ELNO at First Avenue-In a great mix for St. Patrick’s Day cover band E.L.n.O will be spearheading a night six Jeff Lynnes on stage.  Featuring 89.3 the Current DJ David Campbell the show is always full of surprises and great covers.  In addition Thin Lizzy Cover Band Jailbreak! will be playing as well the Minnesota Police Pipe Band.  For the second weekend in a row at First Avenue Jake Rudh will also be spinning between sets.

Next week new local venue, The Brick, opens up in downtown Minneapolis, check on my feelings about a corporate owned venue over the weekend.
Be careful out there this weekend folks.
