(June 12, 2012) Low and Trampled by Turtles are two incredible Minnesota based bands that many of us who listen to local music know from their frequent airplay on the Current and the local concert circuit.
Even better are the side projects that members of these bands are involved in who have taken up Tuesday residency at the Turf Club for June. Retribution Gospel Choir is a wall of sound; it is amazing that three people can make that much music. There is a difference between being loud and being loud and listenable, Dead Man Winter definitely fits into the latter category. I was impressed by the pure passion and how they just wanted to rock. It is definitely a different vibe than Low, the play loud, hard and fast.
Dead Man Winter is a side project of several members of Trampled by Turtles including lead singer Dave Simonett. Dead Man Winter definitely sticks more to their TBT roots as a band but with more electric than TBT. The band was a crowd favorite and played a few TBT songs which the crowd definitely got into and it turned into quite a dance party.
There are two more Tuesday’s left in June to check them out, I would suggest you try to make it out and enjoy some incredible local music.
